Regardless of your industry more traffic will mean reaching more potential customers and ultimately more sales. In this article we cover the ways to deliver more traffic to your website. We will look into traditional PR, free advertising with search listings and social media and finally paid advertising on search engines and social media. Depending on the nature of your website some of these might work better than others so we always recommended to keep an open mind and try them all out. ### Traditional PR This is still a very good method to increase awareness around your organisation even in a time when we are all thinking digital getting your news and story out there is still a great way to increase traffic. Having a PR company work to get your organisation in the press and on other websites is great to spread your name but also to get incoming links to your website. Which ties closely into ranking well on search engines as they will rate your website higher if you are being linked to by authoritative websites such as national and regional press websites, industry websites and popular blogs. ### Organic Search Listing Website owners will see [search engines as the main way to increase traffic](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/seo-cambridge/) and it’s only natural to want to rank first for your particular keywords. Ranking highly in search listings can be extremely competitive and takes time and effort to climb the rankings but it is worth it in the long run as there will be no ongoing costs. You might hear this as free advertising but for many companies serious about doing well in search it does take a focused campaign to achieve long lasting results. This campaign revolves around optimising your website (some technical changes might be required), generating regular content on your website and finding ways to attract incoming links to your website. This work can require several different skills and be time consuming. But the key thing to remember is that as you make the changes to your website all the content that you write will continue to work hard for you for years to come. So the upfront effort does pay off. ### Social Media Another crucial tool that can help you achieve free traffic is social media. Social media platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and Instagram can help you achieve this goal. The great thing with social media platforms is that it will ‘push’ your content to customers rather than waiting for them to visit your website. So once you have got your potential customers to connect with you on social media you then have a direct method to send them information. Knowing which tool to us will depend on the type of content you want to publish. We’re seeing many clients move their ‘news’ off the website and onto something like Facebook or Twitter as it is much easier to keep updated and customers who follow you will see it instantly. If you have a regular gallery of images then Instagram is a great tool. It’s one of the fastest growing platforms too. Another social media platform to use is Yelp which shows prospects reviews of your business. When you gain positive reviews, these will translate into referral and repeat business. We do urge customers not to discount social media, a common thing we hear is “my customers are not on Facebook”. There are 1.8 Billion active users on Facebook so your customers will be among them, they might not be in buying mode but they might just spot you if you present the right message and remember you when the time comes to buy. ### Paid Tactics Paying for advertising can be a very effective and instant method for increasing traffic. Paid Tactics can provide you a solid ROI (or return on investment), if you plan correctly. This is generally referred to as ‘pay per click’ as you pay only when a visitor clicks on your advert. Google Adwords is the most popular advertising platform but you can also pay for listings on Bing and other search platforms. To use Google Adwords proficiently, you must do proper keyword research and find relevant keywords to your industry that aren’t too expensive nor over saturated. Once you find these keywords, you can test a variety of adverts to entice prospects. Thus, it is important to practice your copywriting skills and learn to sell with words. As the name implies, you only pay when someone clicks on your ad so you want to make sure you are attracting the right visitors. Fortunately, you can activate and deactivate ads any time you want. While it is important to get traffic, it is more important that the make sure you are spending money on the right adverts. Free software like Google Analytics can be setup to monitor your adverts and conversions from this traffic. You can use this data to go back and improve your adverts. It is an ongoing effort that no-one gets perfect in one go. ### Paid Advertising on Social Media Social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook offer paid advertising on their platforms. There are a couple of advantages that advertising on Social Media has over paid search listings: - You can setup highly targeted campaigns based on your customers exact demographics - Once a user follows your company you have the ability to continue to communicate with them after that initial paid action - Generally the costs per click are lower. ### Conclusion Traffic is a vital backbone to the success of any business online, it is important to plan properly and constantly measure results. We highly recommend trying out all options but track the results so that you have data to go back and improve your campaigns. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [What are my website hosting options?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/website-hosting-options/) **Published:** June 13, 2020 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** Finding a good hosting solution for your website can be a tricky process. Find out about your options and what to look out for. **Content:** Finding a good hosting solution for your website can be a tricky process and one filled with acronyms and technical terms. To fully understand all the jargon being bounded about requires you to have a computer science degree. In this article I wanted to cover the 3 types of hosting that I would suggest that you consider, what some of the hosting options mean and then discuss what to look for in a hosting company. Note: this article is aimed at small business websites and not high traffic sites or more specialist hosting setups. In general there are 3 hosting options for your website but I’ve added in a 4th which I think can often be a great option – read on to find out. The three standard options are: **Co-location and Cloud hosting:** Co-location hosting is when you get an account on a server shared by lots of other websites. In this setup you share the server resources with all other websites on the server. There are usually several hundred sites on a server. So at peak times or when the server is under a high load this can impact your website. This is the cheapest form of hosting and very quick and easy to setup. Rough costs are (£0 – £200 pa). **Virtual Private Server (VPS):** A VPS is when you get a share of a servers resources allocated to your website. So you don’t have the issue where the overall server load impacts on your website. You often have the ability to install any software that you want on the server. This is a great option and the one we generally recommend to clients. Rough costs are (£200 – £600 per year). **Dedicated:** A dedicated server is when you have the whole server and its resources just for your website. This is ideal for when your website uptime and speed is critical to your business. Because you are using the whole server this is the most expensive of the 3 options but will provide the best results. Rough costs are (£600+ per year). **Web Agency Resellers:** With hosting the expression “you get what you pay for” does hold true. If you’re on a tight budget (perhaps under £150 per year) then rather than co-location hosting I would suggest my 4th option which is to ask your web agency to see if they offer hosting. Your web agency will likely have a high-end VPS or even a dedicated server that they use just for their clients websites. They will have an ongoing relationship with a hosting company in order to resell the hosting. This means for co-location prices you can host on a much higher spec server. ##### What do all the hosting options mean? Some hosting companies list A LOT of options on their pricing pages. Of course they are trying to provide information for all sorts of websites but there are a few things to look out for: 1. **Storage or Space:** These days storage is cheap and hosts will offer way more than you’ll ever need. Unless you’re hosting lots of video, 2-5 Gb would be fine. 2. **RAM:** In broad terms the more RAM you have for your account to use the more traffic your website will be able to support and your page speed will improve too. If you are hosting on a VPS or Dedicated server try to have at least 1 or 2 Gb of RAM. 3. **Bandwidth:** Each time one of your webpages is viewed then the size of that page and all the images included is the bandwidth that is used. So if you have a 100Mb bandwidth limit then a 1Mb page can be downloaded 100 times. Like storage, bandwidth has become much cheaper these days and its rare you’ll be limited. If you’re getting a couple thousand visits per month to your website then its unlikely you’ll need some than 5Gb of Bandwidth. ##### What to look for in a hosting company? Once you have compared a few different companies and their packages there are a few questions I always have in my mind. Getting the following right is the difference in finding a great hosting company to trust your website with: - - Size of the company… will you be just a number? Going with a BIG hosting company might seem like a robust solution but I’ve often found that support gets worse with bigger companies. - Do you get a response to your support tickets in a timely manor and do they provide helpful advice? - Are backups included in your package and are they setup and automated as standard? Make sure the backups are copied off-server to protect yourself in case of a disk failure. - Make sure you get managed hosting, which means your server is kept upgraded and support will provide better support when you need it most. ##### In Summary With website hosting you get what you pay for. I would always recommend either a VPS or possibly piggypacking on your web agency’s hosting setup. But more importantly I would recommend a smaller hosting company with proven support and response times. Ask for a recommendation. Make sure you get a managed account and that your account is being backed up often and off the server in case of a disk drive failure! **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [How much does website design cost?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/how-much-does-web-design-cost/) **Published:** February 17, 2021 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** Web design costs will vary enormously but by understanding what goes into building a website we can start to get a decent idea. **Content:** If you are in the process of looking to hire someone to design a new website for your company then chances are you have received a few quotes and it’s highly likely the prices have varied enormously. Unfortunately, this question has many parameters but by understanding what goes into building a website we can start to get a decent idea. In this article I’m going to break down the costs involved in a getting a custom website designed, built, populated and launched. This is what we’re going to cover: 1. [What goes into a website](#chapter1) 2. [Hourly rates for web design](#chapter2) 3. [Custom design vs bought themes](#chapter3) 4. [Writing content for website](#chapter4) 5. [Images and other media assets](#chapter5) 6. [Domain names](#chapter6) 7. [Website hosting](#chapter7) 8. [Example custom website breakdown costs](#chapter8) It is also worth checking out our article about the [cost of website maintenance](/insights/website-maintenance-cost/). ### What goes into building a website? Knowing what sort of website you want to achieve will impact significantly on cost. Web design includes a wide range of services and an agency would generally offer the following: - **Project management**: Planning, meetings, consultation and advice - **Research**: Definition of objectives, audience, content and strategy - **Design**: Wireframes, designs and iterations - **Build**: Development and custom programming - **Content**: Content layout, copywriting, photography, illustrations and video - **Handover**: Training and documentation - **Testing and Launch**: Browser testing, hosting setup and go-live ### Hourly Rates for web design Generally web designers will base their pricing on the amount of time to plan, design and build the website – they are essentially selling their time. Therefore prices will be based on an hourly or daily rate. Depending on the sort of company you approach the hourly rate will be based on their overheads, below are a few examples with approximate rates: | Type | Rates | |---|---| | **Offshore web company** | £10 – £25 ph. Cheap labour, lower cost of living | | **Freelance web designer** | £25 – £50 ph. Low overheads, no commercial office | | **Small web agency** | £50 – £75 ph. Commercial premises, wage bill to cover | | **Large web agency** | £75 – £150 ph. Premium commercial premises, high number of highly skilled staff means a large wage bill | Choosing which type of company you want to work with will really depend on your requirements for the project and the type of support and skills you need long term, multi-person agencies will have more skills in-house that you can benefit from (branding, marketing, search optimisation, custom programming). ### Custom design vs bought themes It could be that you just want to get a basic website on-line as quick and as cheaply as possible, with the explosion in popularity of WordPress you can purchase a ready made theme that gets you setup very quickly or you can use a hosted solution like [Squarespace](https://www.squarespace.com/) or [Wix](https://www.wix.com/). The downside to using a tool like this is that it will be up to you to put it all together and figure out all the technical steps. We find that the businesses we speak want to handholding through the process and have a reliable person or team to work with on the project. They also want a professional looking website that can scale as the business grows. So if you are just starting out and you have the time and determination this might be a good option. ### Writing content for websites It is easy to forget how import content is on a website. After all, your visitors are coming to your website to get information and answers to their needs. However much you flower up your website the content will be the determining factor on whether you convert a visitor into a customer. Search engines also need decent amounts of content to be able to rank your website. So you will have two options (1) you write the content internally or (2) you seek professional help with a copywriter. Copywriters will commonly charge by the word or by the page and will be commissioned to write a certain set of pages. A starting point could be the homepage, about, contact and service pages. But this could easily go on into case studies, team biographies, projects, articles and white-papers. Depending on whether you use a freelancer or an agency would need to budget £50 – £100 per page. ### Images and other media assets Content and layout will only get you so far at some point you will want some well taken images to support your content and add colour to your website. Ideally, you will want to take the photography yourself so that it is personalised and unique to your business. This is so important when presenting your services to a potential customer. Unfortunately, a badly taken photo can really standout and make your company instantly look dated. So you may want to consider hiring a professional photographer to run a photo shoot so you have a good set of assets to use across your website. This can cost between £150 and £500 per day. You can also fall back to stock photography. Used sparingly, stock photography can work quite well. There are many resources for images and indeed videos, such as [Shutterstock](https://www.shutterstock.com/), [iStock](https://www.istockphoto.com/), [Unsplash](https://unsplash.com/) and [Stocksy](https://www.stocksy.com/). ### Domain names Your website will need a domain name. Domain names are essentially rented for a period of time, commonly a year or if you buy 2, 3 or 5 years you may get a discounted price. You will need to decide if you want a .com or a .co.uk (for the United Kingdom) domain name extension. Each extensions will have a different cost. Many people also register multiple extensions to protect there presence online. Every provider will be slightly different but at the time of writing here are typical yearly costs: - .co.uk – £12 - .com – £17 - .net – £17 - .org – £17 - .info – £18 - .store – £50 We would recommend heading over to [123Reg](https://www.123-reg.co.uk/) to search and register domain names. They are very reliable and give you all the configuration access you will need. ### Website hosting Website hosting is the physical server where your website needs to be installed for it to be accessible on the internet. Like the domain name, hosting is an annual cost and paying upfront for multiple years will get you a discount. There are many options with hosting and we have another whole article where we go into all the differences in detail, [read more here](/insights/website-hosting-options/). But in summary you get what you pay for with hosting. Do not be fooled into paying for really cheap hosting or you are quite likely to have your website offline or without backups and little to no technical support. As a starting point we would highly recommend the following companies: [SiteGround](https://www.siteground.com/index.htm?afcode=eee8d375036783e794e00c2df70124f2) and [FastComet](https://www.fastcomet.com/). We use both of these extensively and trust them to look after hundreds of clients. ### Example custom website breakdown costs Having gone through all the details and options let’s look at an actual example to quantify: You have decided that you want to hire a small reliable local agency to design and build a custom website that will make you stand out and present you in a professional way for several years to come. Based on the agency rate of £500 per day: - **Project management**: 1/2 day, £250 - **Research**: 1/2 day, £250 - **Design**: 3 days, £1,500 - **Build**: 3 days, £1,500 - **Content**: £750 - **Handover**: 2 hrs, £125 - **Testing and Launch**: 2 hrs, £125 - **Domain Name**: £50 - **Hosting**: £240 Total example: £4,500 + £290 ongoing yearly fees (you will also need to factor in VAT on top of this). Going to a larger agency charging out at £750 per day would be closer to £6,500 + £290 ongoing fees but you will be benefiting from a bigger team, with specialist staff for each service and perhaps also a whole marketing campaign to support the website. ### In Summary Boiling it down, the end delivery is getting a website but the way you get there can vary enormously. The two differentiating factors are the type of company you choose to work with and whether you are prepared to build a DIY website or if you would prefer to go through a professional process with planning, design, build and ongoing marketing and support in mind. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [What is responsive web design?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/what-is-responsive-web-design/) **Published:** August 9, 2020 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** With the explosion of different types of devices screen sizes vary enormously so one fixed size website is no longer good enough. **Content:** In the beginning websites were designed and built for one screen size, the desktop, as this is how people surfed the internet. Today, with the explosion of different types of devices screen sizes vary enormously so one fixed size website is no longer good enough. To fix this and make the user experience good on all devices modern websites are now created to adapt to the screen size available. This is called ‘responsive web design’. When Chameleon started building websites for clients all our websites were designed to a fixed size so that it would look great on a desktop monitor. Of course people had different monitor sizes so we’d use the lowest screen size. Way back we would use 800 pixels and then moved up to 960 pixels as monitors improved. This meant that every website would always be displayed in the same way, larger monitors would have more space on each size of the website. As mobile phones became internet enabled and people started to use their phones to access websites this desktop designed websites had to be resized down to fit the small screens. This resulted in very small fonts, having to zoom into the page to read content and clicking links was problematic. The first solution was to create a mobile version of the website. So the same content but displayed optimised for a phone screen. Mobile websites tended to be hosted on a mobile.website.com or m.website.com style URLs and users might have been prompted to view the mobile website if they started their visit on the desktop website. This worked okay but it meant two separate code bases to maintain so an increase in development costs. The real solution was to have one website which was clever enough to know how to be displayed to a users device. The first option was to find out the device being used, so an iPhone, tablet, web enabled television, Nokia or perhaps a Samsung phone but due to the shear number of devices keeping an up to date list of devices is hard. There were commercial services that could be used to do this. However, the device being used is ultimately not important as the website just needs to know the screen size available. So the method that is now used is the website’s style sheets (which are used to control styling such as fonts, layout and colours) has switches based on the users browser width – usually grouped into 3 or 4 ranges. So large desktop, desktop, tablet and mobile. ### Prioritising Content As screen sizes reduce the amount of content that can be displayed on screen at anytime is reduced so prioritising what to display becomes very important. Whereas on the desktop version a large image based slider might be an efficient marketing device on mobile getting a key message across with a call to action might be preferable. As website designers we can decide whether to show or hide all the elements on the page or even show mobile specific ones – especially useful for images where smaller and higher compressed images will help page load times. A very common thing you’ll notice on mobile and sometimes tablet versions of websites is the navigation is tucked away until you need it and shown only when the menu button is pressed. ### User Interaction is Very Different Another important consideration between mobile or tablet devices and desktop computers is the way we interact with the websites. On many websites hovering the mouse over can trigger an action such as a navigation drop down. On mobile there is no hover state – these are known as touch devices. Because of this when designing highly interactive websites touch versus mouse interaction is crucial to making the website work! ### In Summary Almost all the websites we now build at Chameleon are responsive, although not needed to work on a smaller screen they do make it easier for the user. Ultimately, responsive websites have made building the website harder due to additional design and development time. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [What content management system should I use?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/what-content-management-system/) **Published:** May 24, 2019 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** With so many systems available how do you choose which is right for your business website? **Content:** With so many content management systems (CMS) it can often become quite confusing weighing up the options on the table and making a decision on which CMS to use. So in this article I look into the considerations that I would recommend to help you get on your way to a successful new website. If you’ve been speaking to web designers about your new website then chances are each one will be recommending a different system to use. And there are many. Some old, some new, some feature rich, some very basic and some focus on doing one particular thing (like ecommerce or blogging). The big three CMS’s are WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. With a market share of 60%, 8% and 6% respectively. There are too many CMS’s to look into the specifics of each but if you want to compare features there are a few sites that can help with that, such as CMS Matrix and Wikipedia. So what I would recommend are thinking about three things: ### 1) Determine your minimum set of KEY features Do not get blinded by a long list of features. Chances are once you get your website up and running you will only login every so often to add some content. So what sounds like a feature you can’t do without will likely never be used. As an example, we often get asked for a multi-user group workflow, the idea being that certain user only access a part of the website content and new content is submitted for review / editing before it gets published. It’s rare this plan ever gets put into practice. What is important is knowing what are the key features you will need now and in the medium to long term. For example if you will need to sell online then it’s probably wise to look for an ecommerce system rather than a ‘bolt on’ later. Or if you need a database approach (like recruitment or estate agent listings) then make this the priority. ### 2) Your staff’s experience / knowledge Are your staff currently trained up or used to an existing system? If so it might be worth keeping with the system you already have to avoid the new learning curve and training costs. CMS’s evolve over time and it could be that an upgrade to the latest version, a restructure of the content and also improvement in the installation of your current CMS will work best for you. Remember, problems on a website are rarely a limitation in the CMS but they way it has been implemented. ### 3) Your agency’s preference Lastly, I would recommend trusting the web agency that you are going to be working with on the project. Agencies will typically have a couple of CMS’s they specialise in and they will be able to deliver the best solution with a tool that they are comfortable with. Asking an agency to use a CMS they do not have proven experience with is immediately adding an element of risk to the project. ### In Summary With so many content management systems available how do you choose which to use? Firstly, I’d recommend looking at the key purpose for the site any looking at whether any specific tools would be suitable. Second, what system are you currently using and can it be upgraded or implemented differently to fix any issues, this would avoid re-training of staff. Thirdly, if you have an agency that you want to use in mind then trust their recommendation to ensure they are not hindered in delivering a successful project. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [How to plan a website](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/how-to-plan-website/) **Published:** September 13, 2022 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** Building a website is a very creative process and there is a strong urge to jump straight into design. But putting the effort in early to create a plan will make the process so much clearer. **Content:** Building a website is a very creative process and there is a strong urge to jump straight into design, layouts and visual aspects. But stop yourself. You do need a plan or as the saying goes you will be ‘planning to fail’. Okay, perhaps not quite that dramatic but putting the effort in upfront means you can base your design decisions on your plan to keep you on track. In this article we’re going to dig into the following topics: - [What are your objectives?](#chapter1) - [Who is your audience?](#chapter2) - [What action do you want your visitors to take?](#chapter3) - [Think about search engine optimisation early on](#chapter4) - [Plan your website content](#chapter5) - [Get your terminology right](#chapter6) - [Keep it simple](#chapter7) Our recommendation is to make some notes in a simple document as you think about your project and make your plan. ### What are your objectives? The place to start when thinking about your website is what you want to achieve. What are the goals that would make this a success? A website can serve several purposes for different organisations, generally they would fall into the following groups: 1. **Ecommerce:** Selling products or services directly online to increase sales, eg: online shops, memberships and event registrations 2. **Brand promotion**: To promote and showcase your brand online, eg: brochures and showcases 3. **Save costs**: By moving services online you can save costs and give customers access to facilities 24/7, eg: customer accounts 4. **Customer service**: To make it easy for your customers to get the information they need, eg: documentation and online manuals 5. **Facilitate discussion**: By providing tools for online discussion you can build and nurture a community and following around your products eg: forums and commenting From these top level groups we can determine some tangible objectives, here are a few examples: Tom runs an ecommerce store selling widgets. He wants to increase his online sales. To do this he can (1) increase traffic (2) increase his conversion rate and (3) get more repeat sales. From this we know to focus on search optimisation, the checkout process and keeping in touch with his customers with newsletters and offers. Jane is looking to improve customer service for her company. She wants to reduce the number of phone calls coming into her team, many of which are very similar. From this is need to make it clear that there is help and documentation available on the website. This content needs to be easy to search. Her team need to be able to easily refer customers to it in emails. Harry runs a university project. He wants to encourage discussion around his research topic with academics in other universities. From this we know the website needs to be able to post his news and events in a clear way. The website needs to signpost to his social media channels, Twitter where he can easily share quick thoughts and also a private Facebook group setup for discussions. ### Who is your audience? Chances are you are not building a website for yourself, it is aimed at your prospective and existing customers. You should be putting yourself in their shoes. To do this it is helpful to define your audience. Remember that can be several different groups. For example a school website might have 5 different groups as follows (1) prospective students / parents (2) existing students / parents (3) recruiting new staff (4) alumni (5) school governors. ### What action do you want your visitors to take? By defining your audience into groups you can now make notes on what each will be looking for on your website. What content are they after? What actions are they looking to take? This will help to prioritise links and your website call to actions. We often see features that have been added to a website as an afterthought. They stand out and are not in keeping with the rest of the website. This is because the function was forgotten during the design process and then hastily added in later – not ideal! ### Get your terminology right An often overlooked step is making sure the terminology you use on your website is what you audience will understand and use. It’s common to have internal terminology or use acronyms but these might not be clear to prospective customers and definitely not what they will be using in search engines to find your website. Which means your search rankings will suffer too. Do some research, find out what terminology makes most sense and use it on your content and navigation… ### Plan your website content Planning your content structure is one of the most important steps. You want to keep your website navigation simple and clear otherwise you will frustrate your visitors. As per the step above the terminology should be familiar to your visitors. To plan your structure we create a sitemap. This is a visual guide of the pages on your website. It does not have to show every page on the website but the type of content. For example: you can note down having a news section which you know will include multiple news posts and categories. To create this plan you could use software like Excel or an online tool like [GlooMaps](https://www.gloomaps.com/) which our clients really enjoy using. Here is a snazzy sitemap we produced for a recent project: ![](https://chameleon.chameleonlab.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/sitemap.webp) ### Think about search engine optimisation early on [Search optimisation](/seo-cambridge/) is often left to the end of a project or implemented retrospectively. In the steps described above we looked into terminology and website content. These two things are core to search engine optimisation so it makes a lot of sense to think about what search terms you want to be found during the website planning phase. A fundamental concept of search optimisation is that you need to have content targeting the key phases you want to be found for. There is very little chance of being found for a key phrase if you do not have a page with content including those keywords. Doing some keyword research means you can adapt your website content and even your navigation to make it more likely you will rank for those terms – this is optimising your website. ### Keep it simple As a final bit of advice we always recommend ‘keeping it simple’. Simple solutions are always the best solutions! Here are a few examples: - keep the top navigation down to 5-6 items – the more you have the more effort it is for the visitor to digest and figure out - keep the navigation consistent – it should not change as you navigate the website! - your content should be written in simple terms – easy to read, easy to understand - your visitors arrive to find content all the ‘bells and whistles’ are a distraction to them achieving that **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [Managing website images, our tips and best practices](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/managing-website-images/) **Published:** September 14, 2022 **Author:** Chas Ashford-Hodges **Excerpt:** In this article you will learn how to resize, crop and compress images so that they are ready to upload to your website. You'll also learn some tips on improving image accessibility and best practices when naming your files. **Content:** Images are a critical part of most websites. In this article, you will find some helpful tips and advice on how to manage images on your website to ensure they look good, are correctly sized, performant and accessibility-friendly. ## Choosing the best file format for your image type You may have seen there are lots of different image formats. So which format is best for the images on your WordPress website? Well which format you save your image in will depend largely on what kind of image it is. There are likely lots of caveats to this issue, but as a general rule: **PNG for graphics:** For logos, graphics, infographics, illustrations and so on, you should use PNG. **JPG for photographs:** For any kind of photo or lifestyle picture, you should use JPG. **GIF for animations:** You can still use the GIF format for animated images. ## Naming your image files Giving your images clear descriptive names can not only help you to find them much more easily using the Media Library search function in WordPress, but it will also help give your page SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) a boost. So try to avoid giving your images names such as **IMG123.jpg** And instead aim for images that have names such as **dog-fetching-toy-on-beach.jpg** Try to avoid having spaces in your file names. Keep everything lower case, with multiple words separated by dash – separators. ## How to crop an image in Windows or Mac Although WordPress can crop images for you, it can be helpful to crop an image yourself, manually. Not only does this give you much better control over specifically where the image is cropped (for example you may wish to avoid certain details of a photograph being cut off if there is a central focal point), but it will also reduce the overall data size of your ‘uploads’ folder in WordPress, helping to keep your overall hosting storage footprint lower. ### How to crop images on Windows (versions 10 or 11) You can easily crop images on Windows 10+ using **the ‘Photos’ app**. Just open the app and double click the photo you want to edit. You should see a ‘crop’ icon just above the photo. You will then be able to click and drag the select pointers until you are happy with the crop you have achieved. You can then click ‘Save a copy’ to export the image. A second method to crop using Windows is via **the Paint 3D app**. Search for this app, open your chosen image, click on the crop icon from the top-left corner – resize using the pins. What’s helpful about this app is you can also enter the crop width & height manually. When you’re ready, click on Menu > Save as > Image. For more detailed instructions visit this web page: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-crop-image-windows-10 ### How to crop images on Mac **Crop using ‘Preview’ app** If you are using Mac, you can crop an image using the default application called “Preview” which opens images by default. 1. Make sure your original image is backed up before you continue 2. Double click to open the image in Preview 3. Click and drag your cursor over the part of the image you wish to crop 4. Once the selection is highlighted, if you click the blue dots to resize your selection, you will see a tooltip that shows you the size of the area you are cropping. 5. Click ‘Tools’ in the top menu 6. Click ‘Crop’ 7. The image will automatically save and update to the crop size 8. Press CMD + Z to undo if you made a mistake. Alternatively, you can follow these steps to scale an image: 1. Open image in preview 2. Click “Tools” in the top menu 3. Click “Adjust Size” 4. Change the measurement to ‘pixels’ in the dropdown 5. Add your height and width Please note that using the above method you can also ‘batch crop’ multiple images – by highlighting your images, right clicking and selecting ‘open in Preview’ – and then click and highlight all images before you ‘Adjust size’ under tools. For further information see here: <https://osxdaily.com/2014/06/16/crop-image-mac-preview/> **Crop using ‘Photos’ App** 1. Open the ‘Photos’ App 2. Drag your image into the app, and click ‘edit’ icon in the top right 3. There is then a ‘crop’ feature on the right hand side which you can click and drag and drop a selectable frame over the image to crop it See official apple documentation for further details: <https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/photos/pht13f0918f0/mac> ## Best tools for compressing images (Windows & Mac) It is a good idea to compress your image before it is uploaded into WordPress. This will one simple step could help to provide a speed boost to your page loading times. Improving loading times is very important – some statistics show that website visitors may leave if you page does not load within a few seconds! You can do this easily compress your images with the help of an image compression tool. There are many tools available, but here are just a few examples: ### For Mac: ImageOptim (FREE) By far the best tool if you are using a Mac to bulk compress images is ImageOptim. The app itself is very lightweight and simple. All you need to do is click and drag one or multiple images into the app interface and it will compress the images. There are also app settings that allow you to increase the rate of compression. Download it here: <https://imageoptim.com/mac> ### For Windows: PNG Gauntlet (FREE) Windows only, and only for compressing PNG files, this app is similar in appearance to ImageOptim for Mac. This tool comes with a feature that lets you convert other formats (such as GIF or JPEG) to PNG format. There are only a few options to change the compression settings. Download it here: <https://pnggauntlet.com/> ### For Mac or Windows: Tiny PNG (FREE) This is not an app (although there is a WordPress plugin), this is actually a online tool, where you can drag your images onto the interface on the web page. It accepts WebP, PNG and JPEG files. One of the benefits touted on the website is that it can compress images that have transparency, which some other tools can struggle with. Find it here: <https://tinypng.com/> ### For Mac: PhotoMill (PAID) Allows you to batch convert multiple photos quickly and easily. At the time of writing, this is a paid app, priced at $9.99 available via the App Store. Find it here: <https://overmacs.com/?p=photomill> ### Web Application: Colorcinch (FREE and PAID) There are a growing number of web based applications that help with editing and styling photos without the need to download software. This can have lots of benefits such as having access to your image workflow tools wherever you are and having the software continually up to date. Colorcinch is packed with useful features for you to add character to your website images. Find it here: <https://www.cartoonize.net/> ## Alt text on images Adding Alternative Text *(otherwise known as Alt Text)* to your images is one of the most important steps you can take to improve the accessibility of your content. Alt Text provides a description of the image. This is important because when a screen reader encounters an image, it will attempt to read a text alternative first and foremost. More rarely, if an image fails to load for a website visitor, it is always useful to have the Alt Text fallback. So what kind of text should you be adding to your Image’s ‘Alternative Text’ field? Will any old description do, or should we aim to meet certain criteria? What kind of description you provide for your Alternative Text field depends on what type of image you are using. There are different types of images, and they serve different roles or functions. ### Image Type defines what kind of alt text to use **Icons –** such as social icons or contact icons are a type of ‘informative image’. For example, if you have an icon of a telephone, next to your company telephone number, your Alt Text should read “Telephone:” – This is so that if the image fails to load or a screen reader views this content, it still makes sense without the image. **Logos –** In the case of a Logo, the Alt Text should normally simply describe the name of the company or brand which the logo represents. **Infographics –** Sometimes you may have images that display instructions to users or information about a product or service. In this case, it is better to have a more detailed Alt Text Description – which provides a short paragraph detailing what the instruction/product/service is. **Photographs –** If you have a photograph, which is one of the more commonly used types of images in content, it is best to write Alt Text that describes briefly what is it in the image. For example “Young boy running through field flying a red kite”. You can also include a bit of information about what emotion or purpose the image is trying to convey. You can easily edit Alt text in WordPress from the media library – just by clicking to edit and image and entering your text in the Alt field. It is worth doing – as it has a positive impact not only on Accessibility but also on your SEO. ## Conclusion Managing images is an important component of making sure your website is fast, accessible and performant. It’s a great idea to crop your images, compress them, give them good file names and descriptive alt text. Taking these simple steps alone will go a long way toward improving your page load speeds and making your website look more stylish at the same time. **Categories:** Image Management **Tags:** compression, images, media --- ### [How much does website maintenance cost?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/website-maintenance-cost/) **Published:** October 12, 2023 **Author:** Garth Lauckner **Excerpt:** Maintaining and keeping your website up to date is an on-going process. In this article we’re going to look into what is involved in website maintenance, how often maintenance needs to be performed and what the costs might be. **Content:** Maintaining and keeping your website up to date is an on-going process. It is a common misconception that a website will continue to operate exactly as it did on the day of launch indefinitely but unfortunately this is just not true. We often say “a website has a lot of moving parts” and the more complex it is the more movings parts. All these parts need to be looked after, more on that later… In this article we’re going to look into what is involved in website maintenance, how often maintenance needs to be performed and what the costs might be. 1. [What is website maintenance?](#chapter1) 2. [Why do I need website maintenance?](#chapter2) 3. [Keeping software updated](#chapter3) 4. [Providing assistance with content](#chapter4) 5. [Having a team to call on](#chapter5) 6. [What to include in a website maintenance contract?](#chapter6) 7. [How much does website maintenance cost?](#chapter7) ### What is website maintenance? Put simply website maintenance is an ongoing process whereby you update your website to keep it operating functionally, securely and efficiently. ### Why do I need website maintenance? So what do we mean by “a lot of moving parts”? As a quick overview your website is hosted on a web server which has both hardware and software. Your website is built with software often something like WordPress that lets you manage the content. WordPress is complimented with plugins to extend the website functionality. Your visitors then access the website with a web browser. See the diagram below: ![](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/webserver.svg) This whole stack of hardware and software is all being regularly updated to remain competitive. Because of this constantly evolving cycle if you leave your website it will eventually start to break. The other major factor in maintenance is preventing or minimising the risk of software being open to security vulnerabilities. Especially in the case of open source software, vulnerabilities are constantly being found and patched. ### Keeping software updated At a base level the software powering your website needs to be kept up to date. The frequency is not too important, we would tend to recommend every 2-3 months, the main thing is that updates are performed regularly and not left for long periods of time. It is likely that your WordPress website will have a few (\*ahem\* lots) of plugins. In which case keeping all of these up to date can be near on impossible. So do not feel like they should always be up to date. As mentioned just having an update cycle is best practice. If you are using WordPress it might seem easy to run the updates yourself and indeed the interface provides one click updates to do so. This is fine 95% of the time but every so often you can run into problems that are trickier to resolve. The downside to WordPress and its ecosystem of plugins is that it is very easy to code and publish so you will get a wide range in developer skill and professionalism when releasing their software. From time to time a plugin might induce a bug or conflict with another piece of software. The result could be a minor inconvenience but it could take a page or your whole website offline. When this happens having someone technical on hand to figure out which software is causing the issue and what the best solution to restore the website is invaluable. ### Providing assistance with content Another important aspect of website maintenance is keeping your content up to date and inline with your business goals. Hopefully the majority of this can be managed through a content management system (CMS). These days it is pretty rare that a website has no CMS. However, even with a CMS in place websites can be very technical and often a little daunting to team members who only dip into the website from time to time. We see this all the time with our clients – and it is very understandable. Having support from a team to help adding content, especially with things like getting the correct image crop in place or adding something more unique like tabular data can be very beneficial. ### Having a team to call on Like insurance having a maintenance contract with a reliable team is in place should the worse should happen. Thankfully it doesn’t happen often but when it does it can be very infuriating and time consuming to fix issues. An experienced team should be very familiar with your website and the software components. It is impossible to know what changes are in each new version and predict conflicts. So any maintenance should have full access to your website and backups to hand. For this reason it is almost always better to have the team who built your website look after it. From experience it is very hard to take over a website as they can be built in so many different ways. ### What to include in a website maintenance contract? There is no right or wrong, what you want help with will depend on you and your teams level of skill and time that can be put towards looking after the website. Some people will try to do it all themselves (common when starting out), other want to outsource everything but typically we find people want to manage the content themselves and have a team on and to run software updates and be on hand should they need help. Here is a list of tasks to consider including in a maintenance contract: - Monthly or Quarterly software updates - Security & vulnerability scanning - Insurance against website hacking - Daily backups and restoration service - Site speed audit - Site technical audit - Content assistance ### How much does website maintenance cost? The cost of putting a maintenance contract in place will vary due a many factors, but here is a summary of the common options: 1. You could look for a specific **website maintenance company**. They are likely to offer fixed rate packages, generally a couple of options based on the type of website complexity (ie: basic, professional, ecommerce etc…) or the level of service (perhaps turn around time). You can expect to pay between £50 – £75 per month for a basic plan and in the region of £150 – £200 per month for a more professional / e-commerce plan. Pros: they will pack in a lot of white labeled services you can benefit from Cons: they are operating on small margins and won’t know your website in and out. 2. Your **website design company** might offer a maintenance service. This is likely to not have as many white labeled services and instead focus on the basics of software support and assisting you with content, day to day tasks and consultancy. You can expect to pay around £600 per year for a basic service and £1,500-£2,000 per year for closer support. Pros: you will get to know the team by name and be able to speak on the phone with issues. Cons: turn around time might be slower due to support not being the primary focus of the company 3. Finally, you could have a good old fashioned **support retainer** in place based on a set number of hours per month set aside for both routine tasks and contingency. You would need to work through what those tasks are and the estimated number of hours needed. The cost for a retainer will be based on the companies hourly rate, usually with some discount due to being paid up front or contracted for a term like a year. You could expect to pay an hourly rate of £50 to £150 per hour. An example of 3 hours per month would be £1,800 – £5,400. A wide range! **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [How often should you review and update your website?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/update-your-website/) **Published:** June 22, 2021 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** Why you should be spending more time reviewing and updating your existing website and avoiding a more expensive redesign later on. **Content:** As a web design agency the majority of our work is project based. We have a potential client come to us with a set of requirements for either a brand new website or a redesign to an existing one. Unless it’s for a new company or perhaps a new project within an organisation it’s very common for us to hear that an existing website is so out of date that they are embarrassed to show it to their customers or that perhaps its broken or they can’t do particular things they have heard they should be doing. Leaving a website for such a length of time will invariably mean it will need a redesign to restructure content, refocus on the business services, generate new copy and photography, update the branding and implement the latest technologies. But why leave it so long? We recommend that rather than this cycle of redesign you schedule periodic reviews and incremental updates to keep the website working harder and longer for you. In this article we look into why you should be spending more time reviewing and updating your existing website and avoiding a more expensive redesign. ### Reasons to keep your website updated - **Business focus:** Your service offerings to customers will change over time and so too might the customers you are hoping to attract. Having editorial control over your website will enable you to keep the website messaging and content relevant. The priority of content might also need to change and assets like photography and downloadable documents refreshed. - **Customer Perceptions:** Your potential customers will be shopping around and comparing your website to your competitors. Often the website is the first point of contact and that first impression and perception that they get of your company from your website will affect their decision to contact you or not. If your website looks particularly out of date or there is no new content posted in the last couple of years it will not look good. Customers want to see activity. - **Search Engines:** Search engines like to see new content. They have their automated ‘bots’ out crawling the internet looking for new content to include in their results. The less activity on your website the less they will visit. The more activity on your competitors websites the more they will be promoted in the search results. - **Keeping secure:** Finally keeping your website secure from potential hackers is important. You might think of a hacker as someone personally targeting your website to deface it but in-fact this is rare. The primary goal of hackers is to use your website to either send spam emails or place hidden links to other websites for search ranking benefit. For them the best way to achieve this is to not be noticed. If your website has a content management system in place then chances are your website will be being probed by automated ‘bots’ looking for out of date software with known vulnerabilities or brute force attempts on the user login. The more popular the system the more they will be targeted. ### What process do we recommend? So now we’ve discussed why you should keep your website updated this is the process that we would recommend you implement. Obviously this can vary based on the type of website: 1. **Periodic review cycle:** Like with the rest of your business, schedule some time every quarter to review the website. Ask yourself whether the services promoted are still relevant? Has anything changed within the business that needs to be reflected on the website? Are there new bits of work or awards that you want to shout about? Get feedback from all departments in your organisation and look for common things that customers might have asked for. It might help to reduce the number of calls or free up some time from your staff. 2. **Check your website analytics:** I admit there is an overwhelming amount of data in these tools but you could set some key performance indicators (KPI’s) to monitor, such as: number of contact form submissions or document downloads, mosts popular content, amount traffic from a particular source (perhaps social media or newsletters) or something as simple as the number of visitors. 3. **Run a website MOT:** There are a couple of standard tasks that you should perform to make sure the website is in working order: Upgrade any software or third-party plugins used. Run a link checker to look for broken links. Make sure your contact forms and calls to action are working and coming through to the correct people. Make sure you have backups in place that they are running. 4. **New website content:** Make sure your current marketing activity is being promoted on your website. Any events, press releases, conferences, awards, white papers should be proudly displayed. 5. **New website features:** Are there any new features to add to the website? This could be both features for the customer like an update to the design, downloadable documents, data capture forms, newsletter signups or a blog or it could be system things like tracking to monitor KPI’s, improving the website page loading times or fixing something for the latest browser. 6. **Implement:** Finally implement the changes above! By following a process like this on a periodic basis your initial investment in your website will last longer, your customers will be more likely to contact you leading to more sales and you’ll be happier knowing that your website is working hard for your company. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [Are you on the ball with GDPR Compliance?](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/gdpr-compliance/) **Published:** April 5, 2018 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** May 25th is just around the corner and with it D-Day for making sure you’re up to speed with GDPR compliance. **Content:** May 25th is just around the corner and with it D-Day for making sure you’re up to speed with GDPR compliance. Sounds simple. It would be, were you not also single-handedly delivering the rest of the marketing plan with modest resources, running admissions or even teaching Chemistry. Having helped several very different schools create bespoke but equally smart sites over recent years, here are our six key steps to successful school website builds. ### 1. Start with your key users and their needs Do you know your key users, and what they need from your site? This sounds obvious, but it can be tempting to rush this vital stage in defining your spec. Perhaps you need to meet a Head’s tight deadline, or you have already seen a site you want to emulate. Resist the urge to dive straight into design and begin by thinking about, or even talking to, your users. Some sites are intended primarily for prospective parents and would-be staff, and some for prospective students, while others are used by the current school community and its alumni. Be disciplined. At the very least, jot down who will use your site and for what purposes, pin that page up next to your computer, and – crucially – revisit it regularly during the project to check you’re not unintentionally drifting away from your original objective. Hold onto that piece of paper – it can prove a godsend long after the site has gone live as a protection against well-intentioned colleagues requesting inappropriate content. ### 2. Map out the links with your other systems In all likelihood, your website will need to talk to another system – perhaps prospective parents’ personal details collected on the site will go into your Management Information System, or you want an events calendar in your intranet or parent portal to display automatically on your website. Pick a web agency that has some experience integrating sites with school systems, and put them in touch with the staff responsible for your systems from the start. With experience, integration is usually fairly straightforward, but building in a little time to iron out q is always helpful. ### 3. Focus 80% of your effort on the top 20% of pages Before launching into the design of your new site spend an hour looking at the Google Analytics for your current site – or ask your web agency to – and save yourself a lot of time in the long run. Identify the pages that get the most frequent and/or lengthy visits. In our experience these will probably be school section landing pages, admissions, fees, term dates or calendar and news. Others will get high traffic at certain times of the year, such as exam results in August. Focus on making sure these pages will not only work particularly well for users, but will be easy for you to update. Consider ways to incorporate news and promotions on these hot pages to keep them fresh and to encourage users to go more deeply into other relevant areas of your site. ### 4. Choose the content management system that best fits your needs, then tailor it In our experience, schools typically update at least one element of their content every single day, whether they are announcing the first XI’s county win, uploading a video of senior chorale or having a final push on an open event. All of this is great for SEO, but can be time-consuming and frustrating if your content management system is clunky. Some schools like the reassurance of a CMS created specifically for schools, others prefer the greater flexibility and transferable skills that working with leading platforms like WordPress or Craft can offer. Have an early discussion with our web agency about the back end of your site, and consider talking to other schools for their experiences of CMSs. Weigh up the pros and cons together with the agency to find the best CMS for you. Make sure they will fine tune the system you select, removing any clutter you don’t need. ### 5. Cross-populate your content School marketing people are some of the busiest clients we work with. They benefit from being able to enter content once for automatic re-use in multiple places. A news story tagged ‘maths’ for example could display on the maths subject pages as well as in the news section, an event tagged ‘hockey’ could appear with the vacancy for a coach and a blog by the Head could instantly be promoted on the admissions pages and social media. This is not only a smart way to populate content, but also makes your site feel more dynamic and tailored to user interests, with little to no ongoing effort on your part. ### 6. Fine tune your site in the three months following go-live Getting a variety of users to test your site on a development server before it goes live is standard practice to resolve any unexpected issues. Go one step further and use the period after go live to refine the user experience. Free tools like Hotjar allow you to get instant feedback from users about the new look and feel or the ease of finding information. Combine findings with your Google Analytics data for an early evaluation of the live site, and use what you learn to refine it. Often it is the post go-live tweaks that make the difference between a good site and a great one. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ### [Four frequent mistakes of start-up websites, and how to avoid them](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/insights/four-frequent-mistakes-of-start-up-websites-and-how-to-avoid-them/) **Published:** November 10, 2021 **Author:** chameleon **Excerpt:** These are four common mistakes that startup websites fall into and how to avoid them. **Content:** Of the 500,000 small businesses that start trading this year, less than half will make their fifth birthday. Some will fail because their potential customers simply can’t find them. Research suggests anywhere between 40% and 60% of small businesses have no online presence. Today, a good website has also replaced the landline as a mark of business authenticity and credibility. It’s a vital requirement for the vast majority of start-ups. But even those who understand the importance of a site and put one in place from the get-go make classic mistakes. As a result, their site fails to capture and convert interest. Here are the four traps into which they typically fall, and how you can dodge them. ### 1. Their website copy is obsessed with services or product features People starting out in business have an expert skill or a product. They’ve spent the last few months agonising over every detail of their service or product, and now it’s ready for launch they want to tell everyone all about it. Start-ups tend to spend too much of their website copy talking about themselves – the service they provide, the products they offer – and not enough about the customer problems they can (and have) solved. - Put yourself into your customers’ shoes when writing your website copy and think about how what you offer could make their life better. - For excellent videos on writing with influence see Amy Harrison’s [light-hearted YouTube tutorials](https://www.youtube.com/user/littleunred1/videos), or make use of the excellent free resources on [Copyblogger](https://www.copyblogger.com/). ### 2. They let warm leads go cold Building website traffic from a standing start is tough. All that effort is in vain when start-ups leave hard-won visitors wandering around the site unchaperoned, eventually drifting off, perhaps never to return. People rarely move from an initial browse directly to a sale. They need to time to get familiar with the sole trader or company. Very few sane people go directly from first date to marriage; similarly, prospects usually don’t go from prospect to customer in one fell swoop. Sales people spend time building a relationship with a lead, until the prospect feels ready to commit. For many start-ups, the website can be a sales person. - Act like a dedicated sales person nurturing a lead. Consider ways that you can encourage website visitors to take steps towards a relationship with you. - At the very least, make it easy for them to link to connect to you on social media, then strike up a conversation with them there. - If possible, keep back some of your content to provide on sign-up, such as a short guide or a monthly newsletter. That way you can gather prospects’ email addresses, and prompt them to take the next step, perhaps with an offer of a free trial, consultation or discount. ### 3. They forget the value of social proof Start-ups are, by definition, new. But, generally speaking, people don’t like taking risks on new things. Most prefer to wait until something has been tried, tested, reviewed and approved by others before buying it themselves. That’s why word of mouth is so powerful in business. As people begin to use your service or buy your product, they’ll tell other people about it, and some of those other people will become your customers. The snowball begins to expand and accelerate. But the businesses with the biggest need to prove they can be trusted are the very ones who are least able to use social proof to do so. Often start-up websites contain no testimonials, case studies or customer stories to reassure prospects. - Be creative about sources of social proof. Do you have recommendations on your Linkedin profile from people you have worked with prior to starting up that you could use? - Consider offering your service or product to several people for a discounted price or for free, in return for their comments. Don’t be afraid to ask your first customers for feedback, and if what comes back is glowingly positive, ask for permission to use it on your site. - If you have a significant following on social media, integrating your social feeds into your website may help to create an impression of authority and credibility. ### 4. They forget they won’t always be a start-up Start-ups, understandably, think like start-ups. They must, to get off the ground. But there will come a time when they are established, thriving and growing. Choices made at the very beginning are often driven by speed and the very real need to keep set up costs to a minimum, without reference to the future. As a result, start-up websites are often based on inflexible templates and clunky content management systems, or tie businesses into restrictive arrangements. Start-ups need to strike a careful balance between specifying a site that is good enough to get going v over-investing in their website build – both in terms of time and money. - Keep one eye on the now and one on the future. Create a site that can grow as you do, but without the growing pains – one built to be flexible enough for you to add content and functionality simply, such as forms or online payments. - Look for a web designer or agency that will be happy to advise and support you as your needs change, without charging you every time you pick up the phone to them. **Categories:** Uncategorized --- ## Pages ### [Homepage](https://www.chameleonstudios.co.uk/) **Published:** August 5, 2022 **Author:** chameleon **Content:** This is an example page. Most people start with an About page that introduces them to potential site visitors. It might say something like this: > Hi there! I’m a bike messenger by day, aspiring actor by night, and this is my website. I live in Los Angeles, have a great dog named Jack, and I like piña coladas. (And gettin’ caught in the rain.) …or something like this: > The XYZ Doohickey Company was founded in 1971, and has been providing quality doohickeys to the public ever since. Located in Gotham City, XYZ employs over 2,000 people and does all kinds of awesome things for the Gotham community. As a new WordPress user, you should go to [your dashboard](http://local.chameleon/wp-admin/) to delete this page and create new pages for your content.
